‘Do You Mean What I Mean?’
27th May 2025
Young people, researchers and artists working on mental health research together, often use words and terms that mean different things to different people. This can cause confusion, exclusion and/or disengagement. As part of Project CREATE’s first work stream, which explores some of the key mental health and research-related vocabularies used by researchers and young people, we’ve created this resource to support researchers to: Recognise that key terms have specific meanings to individuals and that these may not be unanimous across all groups.- Highlight the need to be sensitive and more aware of these differences and where confusion may arise.
- Use vocabularies that are meaningful and inclusive to working collaboratively with young people.
